Tejano singer Selena Quintanilla was on the brink of international stardom when her life came to a sudden end at the age of 23, in 1995, when she was shot by her fan club manager. Now, 21 years later, her legacy still remains.

On Oct.3, the highly anticipated Selena makeup collection became available online to customers and was sold in all M.A.C. stores starting on Oct. 6.

According to Billboard, last July, after a dedicated fan Patty Rodriguez started a petition to start a makeup line inspired by the Tejano singer, M.A.C. Cosmetics confirmed the Selena Collection was in progress,

After the announcement, Rodriguez spoke to Billboard, revealing her excitement.

“This is history in the making” Rodriquez exclaimed, “to have a brand like M.A.C. Cosmetics honor Selena Quintanilla, a Latina-American, speaks volumes of what we meant not just our community but to pop culture in this country.”

The limited-edition collection contains 13 items, including 5 different eyeshadows, a bronzer, and 3 lipsticks. Quintanilla’s sister, Suzette Quintanilla, helped M.A.C. create the items sold in the limited-time collection.

“I want the colors to be about her personality,” Suzette Quintanilla wrote to Billboard, “what she wore on and off stage.”

Despite Selena being killed 21 years ago, teens currently have revealed themselves as fans since they were kids.

Kyrah Betts, a Helix senior, describes herself as a fan of Selena since she was “around 6 years old”.

“I’ve always loved Selena,” Betts exclaimed, “I know all the words to Como La Flor.”

However, even being a fan, Betts was not aware of the release of Selena Makeup collection.

“I had no idea,”, Betts revealed, “but I’d probably buy it.”

After the sale went online, fans of the late Tejano artist  were quick to purchase the products.

Elise Ricks, a junior, was one of many who tried to buy the make up immediately after it went online but described the difficulty in buying it.

“Me and my mom went online to buy it,”Ricks describes,“ but the site kept crashing because there was so many people on there.”

Many fans were angered that the product became sold out so quickly, however were reassured by the M.A.C. company that the collection would not only be restocked soon online, but  “sold in all M.A.C. stores and select department stores.”

In January 2017 the collection should be available once again in stores and online.
