Meyer is known as one of the greatest college football coaches of all time, as he won national championships in 2006, 2008, and 2014, and had an overall record of 186-32.

The biggest reason for his retirement is his health. Meyer has been dealing with severe headaches, and cameras have shown him rubbing his head frequently and bending over on the sidelines. Meyer revealed during the season that he has a cyst in his brain, which he had surgery on back in 2014.

One of the other reasons was his three-game suspension at the beginning of the season due to an investigation into the Zach Smith allegations, where Meyer was accused of mishandling the domestic assault of his former coach.

Although Meyer was highly criticized for his mishandling of the whole investigation, he is still considered as a Hall of Fame coach. Meyer was able to produce three BIG10 titles and two SEC titles with Florida in 2006 and 2008.

Meyer expressed gratitude to Ohio State University for letting him coach their team: “It has been an honor to represent for the last seven years this football program, my home state of Ohio, this university and community that I care so deeply about… I am grateful to Buckeye Nation, the students, faculty, our administration and, most importantly, our student-athletes for their support and respect for this program during this time.”

Although there have been rumors about Urban Meyer taking a possible vacant USC or Notre Dame job, he says he, “will not coach again.”
