Carolina Panthers offensive lineman Michael Oher, whose life story was in the movie, “The Blind Side,” has been cited for allegedly assaulting an Uber driver in Nashville, Tenn., police said on Thursday, reported Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.

According to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, the Uber driver, Daniel Williams, who is 36 years old and is a White American, claimed that he and Oher got into an argument on April 14, 2017 while the driver was giving Oher and four of his friends a ride to downtown Nashville.

The driver claimed that he put his hands on Oher’s face before Oher knocked him to the ground. The driver also stated that Oher kicked him in the leg before the NFL player was restrained by his friends.

The driver claimed that Oher ordered him to follow the car ahead of them to the restaurant. The driver then told the police that he had suggested to Oher that he take the lead because it looked like the driver ahead of them didn’t know where they were going.

The Panthers stated they were aware of the incident and had no further comment. Oher signed a three year contract extension with the franchise last June. Oher was the subject of author Michael Lewis 2006 book, “The Blind Side,” which examined his early life and the importance of the NFL’s left tackle position. The book was adopted into the 2009 film, which netted Sandra Bullock on Oscar for Best Actress.

The two people in the vehicle apparently had to use the restroom, so the Uber driver stopped at Mapco at 1909 8th Avenue South. Oher and the driver continued to argue during the ride and when they stopped at Mapco, Oher confronted the driver. The driver then stated that he put his hands up towards Ohers face and Oher pushed him down onto the ground. The Uber driver told the police Oher kicked him when he was down on the ground.

The other two passengers then got out of the vehicle and restrained Oher from doing anything more. Oher has been ordered to appear for looking on May 8 on the misdemeanor assault citation.
