After Taylor Swift’s hit,“Bad Blood,” a song she confirmed to the Rolling Stone was directed towards another female artist, was released, a rumored feud began between Swift and her former friend, Katy Perry.
After years of subtle comments and attacks going back and forth between the two via twitter, the pop icons have finally confirmed the feud and have allowed the events to backtrack to even further than the public believed: to 2013, according to Rolling Stone magazine.
On May 22, during “Late Late Show’s” host, James Corden’s, famous “Carpool Karaoke,” Perry confirmed the feud between her and Swift. “There’s a situation. Honestly, it’s really, like, she started it, and it’s time for her to finish it,” she stated, as reported by the Washington Post.
In a 2014 Rolling Stone Interview, Swift stated that her song, “Bad Blood,” was about about someone who had “basically tried to sabotage an entire arena tour.”
Rolling Stone Magazine reported that, there was a “trio of dancers on Swift’s Red Tour who had previously performed on Perry’s California Dreams trek.”
“It’s about backing dancers, it’s so crazy,” Perry told Corden, “so there’s three backing dancers that went on tour with her, right? And they asked me before they went on tour if they could go. I was like, ‘Yeah, of course, I’m not on a record cycle, and get the work, and she’s great and all that. But I will be on record cycle probably in about a year. So be sure to put a 30-day contingency on your contract, so you can get out if you want to join me when I say I’m going back on.’”
Swift revealed on the 2014 Rolling Stone interview that the “backing dancers” situation made them “straight-up enemies,” and caused her to attack in response with none other than “Bad Blood.”
Katy Perry’s newest release on May 19, “Swish Swish,” however, is speculated to be the “long-awaited ‘Bad Blood’ response.”
Like in a 2014 tweet, Perry’s lyrics clarify that she doesn’t “need opinions from a shellfish or a sheep.”
Three years later, with subtle pettiness on both ends and the involvement of another two artists (although neither Nicki Minaj nor Calvin Harris lasted very long), Perry finally confirmed and confessed the “beef” between her and Taylor Swift.
As the People magazine reported, Perry is “ready to make amends with Swift.”
“I am ready because I think when women unite, the world is going to heal,” Perry said, “I don’t have beef really with anyone. I love everyone, and honestly I love everyone and I think we need to unite more than ever. I think we see that today especially – like we need to come together and love on each other today,” she told People.
