7 years after the conclusion of “Prison Break,” it has now returned for a fifth season, airing Tuesdays at 9/8c on FOX network. The first episode aired on Tuesday, April 4, titled “Ogygia.”
Back in 2010, Wentworth Miller, lead role in “Prison Break” implied that the series would not return. “I feel as though we told the story we intended to tell. That’s something that’s very rare in television; that you’re allowed closure; and we were.”
“Prison Break” is a story of Lincoln being put on death row for a murder that had been caught on camera. His brother, Michael then found out that he was innocent so he vowed to break his brother out of prison before he meets his unlawful demise.
The premiere episode attracted 3.8 million viewers on FOX network, according to Nielsen data, doing fairly well against other popular shows that night like “The Voice” and “Chicago Fire.”
This season brings back iconic characters such as Michael played by (Wentworth Miller), Lincoln (Dominic Purcell), T-Bag (Robert Knepper), Sarah (Sarah Wayne Callies), Sucre (Amaury Nolasco), Paul (Paul Adelstein), and even C-Note (Rockmond Dunbar).
FOX made an announcement back in August stating that 10 new episodes had been ordered, later being cut down to 9, according to Digital Spy News.
Episode one shows T-Bag being released from Fox River Penitentiary and being gifted a new prosthetic hand by a mystery donor. T-Bag was also given pictures of Michael Scofield alive seven years after his supposed death.
T-Bag then took the news to Michael’s’ brother Lincoln Burrows. Lincoln and an old friend, C-Note traveled to Yemen to investigate the photo. They arrived at the prison, “Ogygia” in which Michael is supposedly being held, the prison is known for holding ISIL leaders and sympathizers.
When Lincoln arrives he meets Michael, but Michael, equipped with new tattoos, pretends to not know who his own brother is.
This new season of “Prison Break” introduces a new and interesting narrative, set in Yemen during a war time where ISIL is on the rise and taking over the city and heading towards the prison to free their leader.
“Prison Break” is one of the best series on television, all of the seasons maintain interest. Now that the show has been reintroduced to television I recommend starting from season one, which I believe is the best season, and watching it all the way through. “Prison Break” can be streamed on Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, and YouTube.
