This year’s Super Bowl halftime show blew viewers away with a performance from Lady Gaga. A large number of viewers parked a conversation about her performance and appearance.

Many people expected Gaga to make a political statement at some point throughout the show, but she never did. However, she managed to hint at a different message she wanted to convey: inclusion for all.

Gaga started the show by singing “God Bless America” and “This Land is Your Land.” Before transitioning into singing any of her songs, she recited part of the Pledge of Allegiance. When saying “liberty and justice for all” she strongly emphasized “for all.” Her emphasis on inclusion didn’t stop there.

Later in the show she sang one of her well known songs, “Born This Way.” The song communicates accepting others regardless of their differences.

Although her performance didn’t include any politics, she did express a collective message that is almost opposite of the current political ideal from our president. She seemed to reveal a hidden message without stating it.

According to, a Business media website, “ She rebelled in a subtle way ” by rejecting the beliefs of our new President. Although many were anticipating something more blunt, people still seemed to notice these statements and messages she was trying to express, and were pleased with what they saw.

Gaga did directly address a different topic of conversation based on her performance at the Super Bowl. Various people on different social media platforms began to shame Gaga on the appearance of her body during the show. Criticism came from people claiming she had too much belly fat or that her body was not up to standard.

Lady Gaga decided to respond to the negative insults about her body, but not in the same way most people would. Instead of lashing out or complaining she simply showed how content and proud she is of her body.

According to The Huffington Post, she captioned a photo that read, “I’m proud of my body and you should be proud of yours too. No matter who you are or what you do. I could give you a million reasons why you don’t need to cater anyone or anything to succeed.”

Regardless of the complaints and concern Gaga received about her performance, both fans and general viewers seemed to be extremely happy and satisfied with her halftime show.

Gaga saw a 1,000 % increase in her record sales after the Super Bowl. According to USA Today, she sold 125,000 song downloads and 23,000 albums.

Many can agree that Gaga’s halftime show and the success that came after were both something to be happy about.
