On Friday, Nov. 25, 2016, Netflix subscribers everywhere saw the return of a couple of familiar faces to their screens – Lorelai and Rory Gilmore of the early 2000’s show, “Gilmore Girls.”

“Gilmore Girls” ran from 2000 until 2007 and starred Lauren Graham, Alexis Bledel, and Kelly Bishop as the titled grandmother-mother-daughter trio. “Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life” consists of four 90-minute episodes. Each episode reflects a season of the year and follows the cast in their annual adventures.

Graham’s character, Lorelai Gilmore, represented the female powerhouse women strove to be, turning her life around towards success after an unplanned pregnancy in her teen years. Her daughter, Bledel’s Rory, is an academically-minded and big-dreaming girl with high successes seemingly in her future.

“Gilmore Girls” saw the beginnings of careers for now big names, including Melissa McCarthy, Jared Padalecki, Liza Weil, and Chad Michael Murray, all of whom also made appearances in the revival.

“Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life” tracks life in Stars Hollow, Connecticut, ten years after the last episode aired. Rory Gilmore is a Yale college graduate, struggling to find a career path in her messy life.

As she tries to make ends meet after moving back home, Rory runs into many familiar faces, of which fans rejoiced to see after a nine-year hiatus. We find that Gilmore is still closely connected to one of her ex-boyfriends, and her mom is in a relationship with her love interest from the original series, as well.

The Gilmore girls still share their love of coffee that so uniquely described them, and drink it consistently throughout the show. Although the reunion was golden in the eyes of many, we see Rory and Lorelai face depressive and anxiety-filled episodes as they struggle to find their purpose in life.

Mixed reactions to the show have not been uncommon. But positive feedback has been prominent, with one fan saying, “This was nostalgia served in the best possible way,” and another noting, “The reunion captured the wonderful essence of the original series.”

However, the revival series ended with a major cliffhanger – four quick words that left viewers everywhere shocked and hoping for another season. In fact, one distressed Twitter user took to the web to write, “The ending. No. This cannot be the ending.”
