My trip to Safeco Field was a day of excitement.

On a Friday night in Seattle, Washington, my family and I went to see the Seattle Mariners play the Colorado Rockies.

It was a 23-minute drive from our hotel in Issaquah to the stadium.

Fans were able to enter the stadium two hours before the game starts. We entered in the left field gate and met up with some of our extended family.

I have season tickets for the San Diego Padres, and I like to arrive early in order to get autographs, and Seattle was no different. I went down by the first base dugout and got Mariners outfielders Ben Gamel and Guillermo Heredia’s autographs before coming to my seats down the third base line.

Our seats were in Felix Hernandez’s fan section called “King’s Court.” Here we received a free sign and shirt with the ticket we purchased. So, when Felix had two strikes on a batter, we would stand and hold up the sign while yelling his nickname, “King.”

Rockies pitcher German Marquez pitched five strong innings, giving up only five hits to lead Colorado to a 7-1 win in the first game of a three-game series.

There was not much cheering in Hernandez’s fan section because he only struck out two batters, giving up eight hits over five innings.

Right when I got to my seat, Rockies outfielder Charlie Blackmon started the scoring by hitting a home run to center field, giving the Colorado team a lead that they would keep for the rest of the game.

Tony Wolters added to that lead by tripling twice and scoring three runs which guaranteed Colorado’s win.

The only scoring for the Mariners was a sixth-inning solo home run, hit to right field by Denard Span.

After Marquez exited the bullpen trio of Jake McGee, Scott Oberg, and Chris Rusin, he was nearly perfect the rest of the game, giving up just three hits and not allowing a run.

Even though the game did not turn out the way I wanted, my family and I still had a great time on a summer night in Seattle.
