The San Diego police were forced to evacuate at least 60 homes, due to the quick escalation of the fire, threatening many homes and structures along the freeway. Mandatory evacuations were sent through SDSU’s campus as well. Several residents nearby also voluntarily evacuated.

Interstate 8 North has shut down due to the fires close proximity, at one point setting ablaze a group of palm trees that threatened the motorists on the road.

Officer John Buttle told Fox News, “Many homes in the area were threatened but not damaged.”

The cause of the fire is still under investigation with no evidence of a homeless camp. However, there have been reports of juveniles on the scene. There is much speculation that the children most likely caused the fire. It has not yet been revealed whether there will be charges.

Firemen worked tirelessly, making sure the fire burned as little land as possible. A total of 38-acres were affected before they gained control The fire was 100% contained as of 8:30 am. on Monday, June 4th, through fire crews have been staying to make sure that no hotspots start another.

Traffic is still a problem along I8-N but the evacuation has been lifted. It was confirmed by San Diego County sheriff Sgt. Matt Cook who told Fox News, “The evacuation orders were lifted less than an hour later when fire crews stopped the forward progress of the flames.”
