The CW teen drama, Riverdale, recently aired its second season.

The first episode in season two picked up from where season one left off. After seeing Archie Andrew’s (KJ Apa) father, Fred (Luke Perry), getting shot, he is rushed to the hospital and the episode goes from there.

While anxiously awaiting to hear if Fred will be alright, we also see Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch) enter the hospital with her mother, Penelope (Nathalie Boltt), who has severe burns from the fire viewers witnessed.

Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart) and Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse) try to do some detective work to help catch the person who shot Fred, stopping at Pop’s in order to find some answers. Meanwhile, Archie and Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes) deal with the stress of the shooting and their current relationship as well.

We see a few other supporting characters make appearances at the hospital to console Archie, such as Reggie Mantle and Josie and the Pussycats. Reggie Mantle, previously played by Ross Butler in the first season, is now portrayed by new cast member, Charles Melton.

Towards the end of the episode, we find out how Fred is doing and we get a glimpse into the true reason Cheryl’s mother has burns. We also are introduced to a new character Hiram Lodge (Mark Consuelos), Veronica’s father. In the first season, Lodge was in jail and never made an appearance; however, his character was mentioned quite frequently as fans waited in anticipation to see him in the second season.

The cast and crew have confirmed that the rest of the season will bring more new characters and a darker storyline than the first.
