Since the beginning of the 2000’s, Marvel fans have witnessed their favorite comic book characters come to the big screen. From Daredevil to The Avengers, the Marvel Universe never seems to leave fans disappointed.
The Avengers is just one of many successful Marvel sagas. Both the first film and its sequel, Avengers: Age of Ultron , grossed over 1 billion dollars in the box office, hitting record sales.
After the premier of the second film back in 2014, Marvel Studios confirmed there would be a third film titled Avengers: Infinity War, however it was the rumor of the new characters that caught most fans attention.
“Fans are in for a surprise,” actor Robert Downey Jr. told Rolling Stone back in 2014, referring to what to expect from the third Avengers film.
Downey, who plays Iron Man in both the Iron Man saga and in Avengers, recently confirmed the on-going surprise in a video posted on Marvel’s Twitter page: Spider-Man and Star Lord will be characters in the film.
According to Eonline, after two sets of Spider-Man films produced by Sony, Marvel studios is set to premiere their own set Spider-Man films, the first premiering in in July. Tom Holland will play Spider-Man in the film, but his first appearance as the character was in 2016 in Captain America: Civil War.
“I never have dreamed I’d ever be in one of these movies,” Holland states in the first look video posted on Marvel’s official twitter page
Star Lord is is one of the newest characters Marvel has introduced that wasn’t already portrayed in an earlier film. Star Lord, played by Chris Pratt, is a character in the 2014 Guardians of the Galaxy film. The film quickly became a success for Marvel as it was the third-highest grossing film in North America in 2014, according to Movie Pilot.
According to Rolling Stone, after the confirmation of Thanos, a villain in the film Guardians of the Galaxy, was set to be a character in the third Avengers film, fans hoped Star Lord would also be a part of the film.
In the video, Pratt shares how “unbelievable” it is to be a part of the highly anticipated film.
“Words cannot describe how excited I am for this film,” Pratt told Rolling Stone in an interview shortly after the video was streamed.
While the video confirms the two characters, it also confirms that filming has officially begun.
“Day 1 of what promises to be a year of fun-filled lensing,” Downey says in the opening of the video.
Avengers: Infinity War is set to premier May 4, 2018.
