The entertainment world was shocked after Disney cancelled the hit series, “Girl Meets World” after just three seasons.
Girl Meets World follows the lives of Riley Matthews, Maya Penelope Hart, Farkle Minkus, and Lucas Friar, finding their place and themselves in this world.
Matthews is actually the daughter of Corey and Topanga Matthews, stars of the former series Boy Meets World.
Girl Meets World focused on real life, adolescent issues, such as navigating the “tween” years of the main characters and the problems that go with them. The show may have been three seasons long, but the storyline itself shares the same storyline as the previous series Boy Meets World.
According to Forbes, “This isn’t exactly a surprise as the show’s audience shrank from a stellar 5.16 million viewers for the series premiere to an average of 1.5 million viewers in its third season.”
So despite the love of the 90’s sitcom show, Boy Meets World, the show didn’t get enough ratings to continue.
Disney is big with spin offs of their shows, and it was clear in the title that Girl Meets World was going to be the same storyline as Boy Meets World and that, sooner or later, viewers would slowly stop watching the same plot over again.
Despite that, Girl Meets World teaches so many valuable lessons that young viewers and teenagers will keep in their minds forever.
Lessons such as the importance of strong unbreakable bonds of family, friendship, how to navigate complicated love, the value of truth and honesty, and doing the right thing.
The show’s cast and crew had been awaiting news of the show’s fate since before the New Year and appeared prepared for the possibility that its Jan. 20 season finale might also double as a series finale. Its title? “Girl Meets Goodbye,” reported USA Today News.
The creator of the show did assure fans that he would try to keep the series running, just on a different network.
According to the Huffington Post, “Networks want to do something to gather an audience. The fact that there is an audience who’s been so loyal says a lot.”
Hopefully the show is picked up by another network and the millions of viewers can continue to grow with the cast and enjoy the show.
